The Joy of Change: Pixel's Pink Ribbons & Merrick's #BestDogEver Recipe Refresh

This post is sponsored by Merrick Pet Care and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated for helping create awareness around the Merrick Classic Refresh, however we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Merrick Pet Care is not responsible for the content of this article.

Sometimes it's good to make a change for the better or go for a more natural approach. I've been doing that as of late with my hair in letting it grow out long and natural, and by wearing a classic style with pretty, pink ribbons. Mommy loves my new longer natural hair style. It makes me feel  pretty and attractive. She'll shower me with kisses and tell me I'm the "best dog ever". Of course she's told me that my whole life!

My friends at Merrick Pet Care believe in a more natural approach as well, when it comes to their Classic line of Dog Food and natural nutrition, and they've just done a fantastic recipe refresh for 2016 that you are going to love! Merrick Classic has long provided dogs with best-in-class natural nutrition from a wholesome balance of protein, wholesome grains and fruits and vegetables. Merrick Classic recipes now have been improved to offer an even more palatable and easily digestible mealtime experience for your "Best Dog Ever".

These 5 new and improved recipes start with real de-boned meat as the very first ingredient to provide leading levels of high quality protein. It's then followed up by whole grains like Brown Rice, Barley and Oats, and fresh fruits and vegetables including blueberries, apples, sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots. The Merrick Classic Dog Food line also contains no soy, wheat or corn, which are common allergy triggers.

I wanted to really get "up close and personal" with this new recipe as I learned all about the yummy new enhancements they've made. It sure smells good! The Merrick Recipe refresh comes with new ingredients such as ancient grains like Quinoa and Chia seeds, which adds fiber, protein and Omega-3 to your dog's diet. They removed potatoes from some of the recipes, and have introduced smaller bite-size kibble pieces for very small breed dogs. There's also NO ingredients from China and it is proudly MADE IN THE USA!

I'm also happy to share that these five new Recipes offer pet parents the same Wholesome Natural Nutrition that Merrick stands for at a new attractive price. And speaking of attractive, just like I have a new look, well so does Merrick's Classic line Dog Food bag. Just looking at the front of it, with all those images of food on it, makes me want to start eating the bag itself!

Every dog is unique, has different tastes and different needs. Merrick considered all that when updating their recipes. Merrick has varieties available based on protein needs, life-stages, and breed size. You wouldn't give big breed dog food to a little dog, now would you? Of course not. Merrick's Small Breed Recipe for Adult Dogs is made especially for small dogs like me.

In fact, the kibble is so small and bite size, you could feed it to a 5 lb dog and they would easily be able to chew it without it being too big for them. See? My friends at Merrick have pretty much thought of everything. Let me tell you, it's also incredibly delicious!! And Merrick is a brand that I truly trust. My family has trusted them for years and you can too. Doesn't your 'best dog ever' deserve the very best?

Pixel's Search to Find the Best Natural Food for #PinnacleHealthyPets

This post is sponsored by Pinnacle and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network.
I am being compensated for helping create awareness about Pinnacle's Newly Formulated Grain Free Dog Food,
but Pixel Blue Eyes: "Her Tails of Adventure" only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers.
Pinnacle is not responsible for the content of this article.

I am an all natural dog. I seek adventure, nature's bounty and wholesome goodness for me and my body. The closer something comes to all-natural and pure, the better when it comes to foods I will eat. I often try to find these "all natural, wholesome" good things to eat when I go outside with Mommy. I've searched high and low, far and wide, to find the very best foods for a dog of my caliber to eat. I've traveled from horizon to horizon, but I'm not always the best judge of what I should or should not consume.
I recently sought out on my own to find what I thought would be the pinnacle of kibble, the very finest of the finest, the best of the best. There's lots of great foods out there, but I wanted quality ingredients that were natural and full of fiber. I ventured into the great outdoors to see what I could find. There was a lot of 'natural' things out there all right, but nothing I could really sink my teeth into, nothing that satisfied my refined palette that was used to things like pumpkin, chicken, sweet potatoes and grain-free goodness. Plus, all the things I found made my stomach a bit upset, and that was a very important selling point for me. After all, 'sticks and twigs' is not the same as real food fiber.
Finally, after searching for what seemed like forever, I went back home empty pawed and disappointed. I told Mommy of my search for the perfect kibble. Thank goodness she'd been searching too! She told me the exciting news that she had found a new dog food kibble that indeed had the qualities I was searching for: a high quality grain-free, limited ingredient kibble without any fillers or questionable ingredients.
"Pixel, we've got to try Pinnacle® Grain Free Holistic Pet Foods," Mommy said with enthusiasm. I was overwhelmed with excitement (and hunger pangs) as she told me about this wonderful dog food. "At last," I thought, "I've reached the pinnacle of dog foods that encompasses all I seek":
- Quality ingredients like Quinoa, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Sea Kelp, Cottage Cheese
- Natural, healthy recipes that use high quality proteins
- Antioxidants to support healthy immune system
- Fiber and Probiotics to encourage healthy digestion and small stool
- Promotes general joint health and overall muscle tone

I read on their website that Pinnacle launched in 1998 as a breakthrough brand in natural holistic dog food. And while Pinnacle has always had holistic health ingredients like quinoa, pumpkin, kelp, flax seed, blueberries & sweet potatoes (two of my FAVORITE foods) and cottage cheese...in May 2015, they took all dog recipes Grain Free to facilitate easier digestion. That was especially great news for me because I only eat grain free food. I'm excited to say I'll be giving this dog food a try. I will be writing about my adventures eating Pinnacle dog food in a future blog post, so stay tuned.

If you'd like to learn more about this fantastic brand of holistic dog food with limited ingredients, or give it a try, visit the Pinnacle Pet website, where they offer a $5.00 coupon off your first purchase. They even have a helpful Pinnacle Pet Food product locator so you can find it at a store near you. And be sure to visit their Pinnacle Facebook page or follow Pinnacle on Twitter.

For natural, ingredient conscious pet parents, Pinnacle pet food provides your pet the high caliber ingredients you feed them and more, giving your dog the total nutrition she needs for
holistic health.

So my friends, do you think you'd like to try this new, holistic dog food? I can't wait to try it myself. Mommy and I will be getting a bag of their delicious kibble VERY soon. My mouth is watering at the very thought. What do you think is the best thing about it based on what I told you or what you read about on their website? What do you want to know from me in my trial of eating it? Let me know in a comment below...

Pixel Ponders "Is Natural Enough?" - The Joy of Knowing The Difference

You know, I am a very natural kind of a dog. I like nature, I like being in nature, and I love things that are all natural. Mommy feels the same way. She is always on the hunt for "all natural" products and food for our family, and especially for me and my sisters. She feels strongly about finding foods that are all natural since we will be ingesting that food into our bodies. She reads the ingredients of everything, pouring over the packaging and analyzing every word. But here is a very important question to ponder:  if a pet food says "natural ingredients" on the packaging, does that mean that it's a good balance of nutrition? Does it mean it will give me every nutrient in a way I will be able to absorb properly?
As I said before, reading the labels are one of the best ways to learn about what your pet is ingesting. Ingredients are important, but it's what's in those ingredients that really makes a difference in delivering those essential nutrients that every body needs, whether human or animal. Nutrient deficiency AND nutrient excess can lead to certain health conditions. Good nutrition is just about ingredients, it's about the proper balance of nutrients.
My friends at Hill's, the makers of the new Ideal Balance Pet Food, have an excellent grasp on this very same subject. They have a few answers for the question "Is natural enough?" Hill's Ideal Balance pet food has the best ingredients like chicken, potatoes, apples, cranberries, carrots and lots of vitamins and minerals, but more importantly, they make each recipe to be a perfect balance of nutrients from those ingredients. Not too much, not too little, so every pet that eats Ideal Balance will get the right amount of nutrients to stay strong and healthy.
The goal of Hill's is to make a pet food with quality ingredients that delivers nutrients like protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals balanced in the right proportions to provide optimal nutrition for your pet. Protein is needed for muscle growth, carbohydrates are needed for energy, vitamins and minerals help create a strong immune system and strong bones and teeth.
According to Kathy Gross, Hill's Pet Nutritionist, “Creating a natural pet food is one thing. Creating a perfectly balanced one to Hill’s high standards is quite another.”
What makes Mommy and I feel good about recommending this food is that Ideal Balance is a true natural pet food crafted by pet nutritionists who know how to perfectly balance natural ingredients for better health for your dog and cat. See for yourself in this video featuring Hill’s Pet Nutritionist Kathy Gross, who chooses to feed Hill’s Ideal Balance to her own pets.

So, now that I've shared just some information on natural ingredients, good nutrients and Hill's Ideal Balance pet food, I encourage you to do some additional research yourself. I know you care as much as Mommy does about the food that your pet eats. Remember that balanced nutrition is the key to good health. Check out the Ideal Balance website for great information about finding the right Ideal Balance food for your pet, compare for yourself how Ideal Balance stacks up against the competition, and be sure to take advantage of the Try Me Free rebate!

The Joy of Gourmet Meals & Giveaways - Ideal Balance Gift Baskets!

Eating good food and giving gifts are two topics I love talking about! First let's talk about food, then we'll talk about gift giving. To me, a good meal is as enjoyable an experience as you can get. My favorite type of meal involves moist savory morsels, a little dry kibble and a lot of love. I am on a wheat, soy, and corn free diet, so Mommy is very finicky about the types of foods I ingest. I, on the other hand, just want it to taste good. I savor every bite! When I eat my meals or have a treat or two, I never let even the tiniest bit of food or crumb escape my clutches. I am, after all, the official "Finder of Long Lost Kibble", so I take eating very seriously and believe a good gourmet meal that is well balanced helps keep me strong, healthy and active.
My friends at Hill's Pet Food feel the very same way. They too take food very seriously and believe that a pet's daily feedings should include a combination of dry kibble (my favorite!), wet food and little treats throughout the day. Now that's MY kind of thinking! Hill's has an excellent new line of food for dogs and cats called "Hill's Ideal Balance" that is wheat, soy and corn free. Some of their recipes are Grain Free as well. Ideal Balance is a perfect blend of all natural ingredients like chicken meat, sweet potatoes, peas, and apples, plus there are no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. When you feed Ideal Balance foods, you can be assured that your pet is getting natural ingredients in perfect balance.
When Mommy and I wanted try Hill's Ideal Balance complimentary nutrition of wet dog food, dry dog food, and treats for ourselves, she said we would be getting a special delivery of it. I couldn't wait for that package to be delivered to our door. I hung out near the front door for days just waiting. They say a watched pot never boils. Well, a watched driveway never has the delivery man show up either. Finally, several days later, the package arrived. I was overjoyed!
The moment Mommy opened up that box of heaven and started viewing the contents, I dove in before she could even see what all was inside (even though she kind of knew already). We wanted a good well balanced sampling of their dry, grain-free foods, some of their wet canned food, and some treats...a dog can't live without treats. Mommy says it's very important to feed your pet gourmet meals filled with love that combine wet/dry food and treats throughout the day.
My sisters Peanut and Dixie Mae were on hand to check out what we'd had delivered. Dixie and I looked deep into Mommy's eyes, clearly letting her know we needed to try one of the treats first. "Which one do you want to try first?" she asked.
Peanut already had her eye on one of the treat bags while Dixie and I were staring Mommy down. She had picked out the Soft Baked Naturals with Beef and Sweet Potato dog treats right away. Look at how excited she was! I thought she was going to paw the bag open herself.
But Dixie Mae and I really wanted to try the oven Baked Naturals treats because we love the crunch! I gave Mommy my best puppy dog eyes and said, "Please Mommy?" She gave in and we all got our wish. Now, you must understand that my sister Dixie Mae is pretty laid back about everything; you might even say she's a little reserved in her judgement of things. She doesn't always show a lot of excitement...
So imagine Mommy's surprise at the sheer joy and exuberance that Dixie Mae showed over the new Hill's Ideal Balance Oven Baked Naturals with Chicken and Apples treats. She was absolutely giddy about them! They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so this photo says it all.

Mommy feels good knowing that, in Hill’s tradition, making nutritious food is at the core of their philosophy; quality and safety first is above all else. You will surely have peace of mind when feeding any Hill’s food and treats to your pet. Knowing that it tastes really good and that we all love it is very reassuring, because like all pet lovers, Mommy wants us to be happy with and enjoy what we are eating.
As you know from other posts of mine, Mommy works out all my meals and treats so that I am not getting over fed, but that I feel special with every tender morsel. Instead of feeding me one big meal a day, my sisters and I get several small meals that equal out to the right amount of food for each of us according to our ideal weight. So, let's talk about the logistics of a typical day for me and my food loving self, shall we? Remember, a perfect balance of nutritious gourmet meals and treats keeps me healthy, energetic and very, very happy.
First off, I feel it's important to mention that breakfast is often said to be the most important meal of the day for your body. You are literally 'breaking the fast' from a night of sleeping. Pets need to break that fast just as much as humans do, so me and my sisters get an early morning meal. Hill's Ideal Balance wet grain-free dog food is a great way to start off the day. I tried the "Braised Lamb & Vegetables Recipe" first. That sounds like food fit for royalty! The meat pieces were pretty big, so Mommy was kind enough to cut them up into more manageable pieces for a little dog like me. Mommy says a Princess of my stature gets special treatment when being fed a gourmet meal. I love it when she talks like that!
I get fed again around midday and then in the afternoon. Sometimes it's dry kibble (kibble is my affectionate word for dry dog food pieces) and sometimes Mommy will supplement the dry food with some wet food. I absolutely LOVE the Grain Free Natural Chicken and Potato Recipe. I scarf that down before you can count to 10. It has all natural ingredients that Mommy feels good about. She loves knowing that Hill's Ideal Balance creators care as much about what is going into my body as she does.
Of course, I can't forget to talk about the treats. Whenever Mommy leaves the house and I can't come with her, she always gives me a treat. That is her way of reassuring me. Without fail I always do at least one full twirl for her, then I gently take the treat from her hand. She loves my pirouettes, and I love the treat (and her of course), so we both enjoy our ritual. Mommy makes me feel special by giving both treats and attention to me. Hill's treats are yummy and so nutritious...a perfect balance of nutrition when given in conjunction with Hill's Ideal Balance wet and dry food.
Well, I am sure by this time that you are incredibly hungry, I know I am just talking about it! The Joy of Hill's Ideal Balance Pet Food: Behind the Scenes

My friends, you know that I am a natural kind of dog that tries to stay as healthy as I can. Mommy and I both believe things should be simple, pure and as natural as can be. I've shared many an adventure where I've explored the great outdoor woods, celebrated the joys of little things, and shared wonderful food that Mommy has made for me that was all natural.  I also believe that a healthy life is about balance. I love to play & exercise, but I get plenty of rest to balance that out. I love to learn new commands and tricks, but Mommy always makes sure that I only have fun with it. And, of course, I love to eat good food and treats that are a wonderful balance of nutrition. That is how I stay in top Pixel shape.
Well, imagine my joy when I was asked to try a new and all natural grain free dog food by Hill's called Ideal Balance. This dog food is unlike most other dog foods, in that Hill's really does believe in a perfect balance of nutrition and safe, natural ingredients. Hill’s Ideal Balance has no corn, wheat (which I especially like since I’m a wheat free dog), soy, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. In fact, their healthy, all natural ingredients, such as real chicken meat, potatoes, peas, carrots, apples, cranberries, and flax seed, are guaranteed, or your money back.
I was very excited to try it out, so we had some sent to us. It seemed like forever before it finally arrived, but it was well worth the wait! When Mommy opened that box and I saw those wonderful bags of new, all natural dog food to try, I couldn't help but give Mommy the biggest smile I could muster!
Oh, the excitement of getting a new yummy food that is safe to eat is always a highlight to me and my sisters.  Peanut (the Pomeranian) and Dixie Mae (the Dachshund) were both excited about this new food too. Mommy said that only the very best ingredients go into the making of Ideal Balance. In fact, I remember getting to meet Dr. Kathy Gross at the BlogPaws conference back in May. Dr. Gross is a nutritionist at Hill's who was instrumental in the development of Hill's Ideal Balance pet food. She said that dog health, and of course cat health, is very important to everyone at Hill's.
When Mommy researched about Ideal Balance, she felt good knowing that Hill's sought significant consumer input on its pet food to better understand what pet parents wanted in a natural pet food.
The new, breakthrough packaging reflects the quality expected from Hill’s, showcasing the balanced ingredients inside. It outperformed other natural brands in "standing out on the shelf", looking unique and being viewed as a high quality product. ...at least that is what Mommy said. I said it looks yummylicious and it made me want to jump inside the bag right away and do my own taste test.
When Mommy was doing research about the food, she got to see the making of Hill's Ideal Balance pet food commercial, where they really highlight the idea of balanced nutrition for pets. Mommy pulled out her portable tablet and showed me, Dixie Mae and Peanut the making of the video too. We were very interested in how they used the latest technology to make the commercial. Mommy said we looked pretty enthralled as you can see from this photo.
Hill's created commercials set in a hyper-realistic world of balanced nutrition for dogs and cats. In separate commercials, they follow a dog and a cat as they discover the world of Ideal Balance. Along the way, the pets journey through the balanced elements that make up Ideal Balance: Perfect proportions of what pets need to be healthy – not too much, not too little.
After we learned all that in the "making of the video", we got to see the actual commercial with all the super cool special effects that made the dog look so beautiful, healthy and like he was walking in an amazing looking world of perfect balance....we REALLY got excited! We were barking and telling Mommy we couldn't wait to try it ourselves.  Talk about getting the consumer interested in the product...we LOVED watching how they made it and then watching the actual commercials. As a matter of fact, I think they should do even MORE commercials, and that maybe they would to use ME in their next Ideal Balance commercial. I mean, I have mastered perfect "balance" while doing my twirls and can do all kinds of commands and tricks on cue.
Here is the "Behind the Scenes" video showing the making of Hill's Ideal Balance pet food commercials.

And here is the amazing commercial they made for the dog food...it is such a beautiful thing!
Finally, Mommy let me taste this great new food for myself. We read that Hill's has received excellent reviews from pet parents who stated that their pets "love the taste" (even picky eaters), plus their pet's coat became shinier. The new Ideal Balance pet food has been very well received by both cat and dog parents alike. You can read some of the reviews from happy consumers on their Hill's Pet Food Facebook page. In spite of all these great reviews, I told Mommy that I would be happy to give my own review. I am after all, a big authority on great tasting kibble. Now, the first thing I had to do was choose which bag to open first. The one on my left looked a little closer...
Mommy cut open the top and saw that the packaging is high quality with a really neat resealable zipper type seal. I, on the other hand, was so excited I stuck my head in before she could say a word! Don't worry, she was able to stop me before I downed a huge mouth full....unfortunately!
"Wait Pixel," Mommy said. "Remember...this food, and our eating habits, are all about balance. Not too much, not too little."
She measured out the perfect amount for me, based on my weight (12 lbs) and how many times a day I eat. I get 3 square meals a day, plus occasional snacks, so this equates one of my meals. Look at how nice and well formed those kibbles are. It smells real good too!
She set it down for me and I scarfed it up so quickly, she almost didn't get a photo, BOL!! I told her it was delicious!!! I give it two paws up in taste, texture and crunch! So Mommy, when is my next meal time again?
Well, now that you know a little more about what went in to making this amazing new, natural pet food – go out and get some for your own family, and see the difference perfectly balanced natural ingredients can make. Take it from me, Pixel Blue Eyes, I promise you'll be glad you did!
Hill’s website offers all sorts of information on the products, including where you can purchase them, online or in your neighborhood – and you can even try it free with the rebate offer!
