Pixel's Professional Survivalist Series: Function Meets Fashion - Being Prepared is Always in Style

Pixel Blue Eyes here, taking another break from my hard core survivalist training to bring you new information that will help you become as good a survivalist as I am. I'm currently reporting from my hidden survivalist bunker. I can't tell you exactly where it is, as that is part of my survival, but I CAN tell you that I am still on the East Coast...oh no, I've said too much already. Anyways...

I take my training and what being a "survivalist" means very seriously. As a professional survivalist, I am constantly mastering new ways to better survive in case a tragic cat-astrophy, Army-gettin' or a dreaded Walking Fred attack occurs. Even if something as simple as a Tiger-Werewolf-Monkey escapes from wherever Tiger-Werewolf-Monkeys come from and invades my yard or home, I must be in tip top form to thwart those attacks.
I've mastered my evasive maneuvers, become quite skilled at being a ninja, am adept at "blending in" with the Walking Freds (always keep Strawberry Jam handy), and even figured out how to trade peacefully with other survivalists. I can use tools, I have LOTS of camouflage items, I know how to seek out edible (and not so edible) plants, and I know how to store (as well as wear) pumpkin and strawberry jam like no one else.
But through all of this, there is one very important aspect of being a survivalist that must not be missed. That is the concept of looking good while you survive! Yes, it's often put by the wayside, but I am here to tell you today that function and fashion go hand in hand. Having to survive a "Walking Fred" attack can be detrimental to your self esteem as you deal with everything involved in your survival. But, if you look good while you evade detection, why that just makes you feel a bit better about things.
For example, my camo hat is great for blending into the surrounding trees, shrubs and ground, but it also looks very nice on my head. And my camo shirt is highly functional at hiding me in plain sight when there's snow on the ground, however the nice pink collar really brings out my natural coloring. I feel pretty while I blend in!
So, as you prepare for your own survivalist training, remember these few Pixel Survivalist Training ideas for today:
1. Function and Fashion really can go hand in hand. Buy things that are both helpful and look good.
2. Good self-esteem might help you think more clearly when deciding how to make your escape.
3. Being prepared is ALWAYS in style!

The Joy of Spring Snow in the Mountains - Pixel's Wordless Wednesday

Although the first day of Spring arrived a few days ago, we always have at least one or two nice snowfalls after the first robin heralding Spring appears in our yard. This morning was a sweet treat in that the early birds brought a beautiful blanket of snow with them! 4 inches of light, fluffy white snow crystals sparkled on the ground and our house.  I had a wonderful time playing outside on the back deck in in the snow today. It was a beautiful winter wonderland of fun!
Snow on my chin? What do you mean?
Throw me a snowball Mommy, I'll catch it!

In coming...

I'll go get that snowball...I think it went over here.

Isn't all this snow pretty Mommy?

I sure do love the snow...not only is it pretty, but it tastes real good too!

Of course I have to taste the snow Mommy...I'm a snow eating connoisseur of sorts. And I'm pretty sure this snow is super fresh. I can tell it was just made.

Some people get a milk mustache, well I prefer a snow mustache...AND beard, BOL!!

Happy Wordless Wednesday friends! Visit some of the pet blogs below to see what they have been up to on this fine day.

Walking Fred Friday - Pixel's Top 5 Uses of Strawberry Jam

With all I've learned about the Walking Freds (my reference to the zombies in "The Walking Dead" TV show) and their intense propensity to like Strawberry Jam, I have taught Mommy to always buy extra when she goes to the store. Not only will it help you blend in, in case of a Walking Fred Cat-astrophy, it also can keep you alive in case your blood sugar gets low while trying to thwart their attacks.

Here are  five good uses for Strawberry Jam when it comes to being a survivalist and dealing with Walking Freds:
1. As a survivalist who must live off the land if a Walking Fred attack happens, I've mastered the art of eating semi-edible bare roots and berries I find in the wilderness. Use strawberry jam to dip the bare root items in that I must consume to survive. The roots tend to be bitter, so the jam makes them more tolerable for eating.
2. Put gobs of it on your face and body if a Walking Fred is nearby...they might just think you're "one of them" and leave you alone.
3. Strawberry jam is a great bartering item when you come across other survivalists. They're probably tired of eating bare roots too, so you might be able to trade it for something cool that they have.
4. I hear that bears like honey. Honey is sticky and sweet...strawberry jam is sticky and sweet. If you run into an angry bear, offer him your strawberry jam. He'll leave happy!
5. If you have a big enough jar of strawberry jam in the wilderness and a Walking Fred comes at you, and you didn't have time to spread it on your body, chuck the entire jar at him, aiming for his eyes. The impact itself might render him blind and you can then make your escape!
So, go out, buy your own Strawberry Jam....it could save your life!

I'd LOVE to hear how you might use Strawberry Jam to survive either a 'Walking Fred' attack or just to survive in the wilderness alone. Please leave me a comment below with your survivalist tip and I'll see if I can use it in my next Walking Fred series post!

The Joy of No Tail Pain Today - Pixel Plays in Celebration

I've been dealing with an especially difficult tail nub nerve pain time since Valentine's Day, hence my lack of blogging, but Monday I was a different dog! I finally got some real relief to where I was a bundle of Pixel fun with Mommy, who was working from home. I spent LOTS of time bringing her toys, dancing into the room with a different toy each time. I had her in hysterics! Never mind that she had meetings all day as she worked from home. She did take a few breaks to indulge me and my Kong Wubba playing self. Here's her favorite photo that REALLY shows how much better I was feeling.

Pixel's Pet Blogger Challenge 2014 - My Plans to "Pixelize" the Pet Blogging World!

Pixel's Plans to Pixelize the Pet Blogging World in 2014!

For the first time in my pet blogging life, I am taking part in the Pet Blogger Challenge, which takes place every January 10th. It’s a time for pet bloggers to see how far we've come and make some plans for where we’re going (with our blogs) in the new year. I started my blog when I was but a little puppy, however I didn't really take it very seriously until about 2 years ago.

I've seen my blog grow a lot in the last couple of years, with a great deal of that growth attributed to the encouragement, support and friendship of fellow pet bloggers like me. Some have small blogs, others have huge websites that include blogs, but no matter who we are as pet bloggers, we all have a few things things in common...
we love animals, we love blogging, and we want to be the very best that we can be at our craft. I've been working very hard over the last few months especially, to bring my blog to a whole new level of fantastic, so I am very excited to join in this challenge. There's a series of questions I must answer to help share my ideas, goals and hopes for the future of my blog. Here goes friends!

Another Monarch Monday - Pixel's Monday Mischief

Mommy told me about this song she used to love back in the 80's when she was a teenager and I really liked it too, so I thought I'd dress the part and sing it to you. Here goes....

"It's just another Monarch Monday, Oh-woe.
I wish it were Sunday, Oh-woe.
Cuz' that's my fun day!
My 'get to run around' day, Ohhh....
It's just another Monarch Monday!"
Since it's from a group called the Bangles, that must be sort of like "bling", so wearing my Princess Pixel outfit seemed fitting. Since we're talking princesses and monarchy, I wanted to introduce a couple of other princesses I know. They are very sweet and nice and are humble in their Princess-iness.

This is Precious Princess Hope. She is a very special girl who lives in Florida. She was born with some front paw limitations, but that doesn't slow her down from being the sweetest, prettiest Florida princess I know! Her Mom Sharon is super cool too, and even made me a beautiful purple animal print dress that is so pretty. They love each other so much! I know Hope would love to make some more friends on her "Precious Princess Hope of Northford" Facebook page. Go visit her sometime, like her page and get to know her.

My friend Princess Ellouise is loads of fun too! She's a beautiful pit bull Princess who is a great ambassador for the loving and noble breed. She is also silly and loves her Mommy Amy so much. They take great care of each other! Princess Ellouise's Mom made me two lovely tutus and sent them with the tiara and feather boa I am wearing for "Monarch Monday" today. But don't let the tiara fool you, Ellouise is just as laid back as they come, just like me and Hope. I bet she'd love to make some new friends too. Visit her Princess Ellouise Facebook page and say hi!
So, now that we've really celebrated Monarch Monday with style, let's get back to that song...
"It's just another Monarch Monday, Oh-woe!
I wish it were Sunday....cuz that's my fun day....."

The Joy of Being Coy with Mommy

Mommy and I have a special language all our own, and I can tell her in a look what I am really thinking, wanting or feeling. Sometimes I try to mix it up a bit and get my way without her knowing it. This was my latest attempt....
"You sure are pretty Mommy. Have I told you lately how pretty you are? I was just walking by the kitchen here, minding my own business, when I saw you. You must be the prettiest Mommy in all the world. I'm not just saying that either. It's really true. I bet if they lined up all the Mommies in the world, you would by far be the prettiest, loveliest, most giving, generous..."
"What Mommy? ...trying to con you into getting a piece of chicken from you? I can't believe you'd even think that..."

Hahaha! So...do you think I ever got a piece of chicken from her? It sure is fun being coy with Mommy! Would you give a little piece of boiled chicken to a little dog with a face that was looking at you like this?

The Joy of Being Lighthearted II - More Motivational Posters

With all the negative stuff on the news, I thought it was time for a new round of Pixel Motivational Posters to get some more lightheartedness out there again. Getting motivated can be difficult sometimes for all of us, but it never hurts to keep trying. Sometimes I have a heck of a time getting my Mommy motivated enough to get out of bed at 5am to feed me 3 hours earlier than our agreed upon schedule...it can be so taxing on a mini schnauzer like me, but I keep trying.
Sometimes, being lighthearted means making a bit of fun of yourself, or having a laugh at your own expense, which might make others feel at ease in a tough situation, or just help your own heart feel lighter. Sometimes, if Mommy seems too serious or isn't feeling all that great, I will grab one of my rattle toys (I love rattles!) and run around all crazy begging her to chase me. That is probably why I sometimes have a bad hair day after all play! But I don't care as long as I help Mommy feel more lighthearted.
Sometimes we can be lighthearted as we learn from our mistakes. Mommy and I know all too well the concept of 'biting off more than you can chew'. Once I tried to eat a rawhide that was almost as big as my entire mouth, but Mommy taught me moderation that day, whether I wanted to learn it or not.
And, no matter what, you always have choices, so make sure you make the right choice. If it brings sheer joy, it very well might be the right choice. Mommy teases me because I always seem to find the toy with the rattle in it. Well, if you loved that sound as much as I do, you'd be choosing the rattle toys too!
I originally shared these new motivational posters on my recently acquired Twitter account, www.twitter.com/. I love sharing my little thoughts on life when they come to me, so I hope you decide to become a follower. I promise only joy and joyness will flow from my tweets. You will love it!
If you have any motivational words or ideas I could create a poster for, leave me a comment and let me know! I always love hearing from you.
